The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston sets standards for cancer treatment, produces groundbreaking discoveries in the laboratory and develops lifesaving prevention and education programs that benefit patients and physicians across the nation and around the world. Since March 1944, nearly 800,000 people have registered at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center.

 

Benefits to Florida

  • More than 16,000 Floridians have sought care at M. D. Anderson since 1944, including approximately 1,000 new patients annually who seek diagnostic, treatment or prevention services.
  • There are 150 physicians and scientists from Florida in the M. D. Anderson Alumni and Faculty Association.  This professional organization includes more than 40,000 scientists, physicians, nurses and allied health professionals who have trained at M. D. Anderson and carried their knowledge to communities around the world.
  • Hundreds of Florida physicians refer their patients to M. D. Anderson each year.  The Office of Physician Relations provides physicians from around the country easy access to the latest information on cancer research, education and patient care.  A secure online portal, myMDAnderson for Physicians, provides patient referral assistance, information on clinical trials and other resources.
  • The University Cancer Foundation Board of Visitors, which provides leadership and support for M. D. Anderson, includes three members from Florida.
  • The Anderson Network, a volunteer organization of more than 1,400 cancer patients and caregivers from almost every state (including Florida), Puerto Rico and six foreign countries, provides information and emotional support to individuals with a similar diagnosis — regardless of where the patient receives treatment.  The network also maintains an online information and support site, as well as outreach groups in a number of cities.
