We are pleased that Dr. Diane Bodurka joined Kim’s Fund as our medical advisor. Dr. Bodurka selects from the applicants for research fellowships and oversees the endowed fellowships. She helps update us on progress in leukemia research. She will also assist in bringing to us a greater understanding of the critical needs in basic and translational research and where our “venture capital” approach can help.
Patient assistance grants are made through the Department of Social Work at M. D. Anderson. Patients in need of financial assistance are made aware of the available resources, including grants from Kim’s Fund. Kim was aware of the problems that fellow patients from low income families experienced, particularly the problem of housing during lengthy stays as outpatients. Social Work’s latest progress report states their gratitude for the help that Kim’s Fund has given to low-income leukemia patients, especially those who are undergoing stem cell transplants.
